Sergei Li

Missionary in charge of recruitment of missionaries and partners

Who am I?

My name is Sergei Li, and my wife’s name is Kelci. I was born in Kazakhstan, and my wife in Florida. We met in South Korea at the Word of Life Bible Institute there in 2013. We’ve been married for about 2.5 years now. We have a one-year-old son named James, and we’re expecting our second baby in February.

We both feel called to serve and minister in Quebec. We started our ministry in Terrebonne-Mascouche. I was a youth pastor at the church I grew up in, while also studying and taking courses through SEMBEQ. However in the fall of 2017, I felt like God was calling me to start a ministry that would help churches in Quebec with their strategies and marketing. This was the plan before we found out we were pregnant, but God had another plan for us. We had to put a pause on that plan, and I had to find a job that would support us better financially for our growing family.

Since before James’ birth I was trying to find a career in sales, and I landed a job with the company Rogers and it’s flagship store in downtown Montreal. It was going really well – I was hitting my targets weekly, and I saw a career with Rogers. My vision and long term goal was to develop a career and minister to the churches in Quebec financially.

My calling

I thought that I would retire early and help churches in Quebec. This was my plan, but God had another plan in mind. Norton Lages, my pastor and director of Mission Quebec, randomly called me in February 2019 to meet with him, Steve, and Oscar. They were visioning a difference in the spiritual health of Quebec and the impact it could have in the world. I listened to all they had to say and loved their passion and dream for Quebec, but I was late for work that day at Rogers. But then they offered me a job that I never expected. They were looking for someone with my intentions and skill set for their communications team and fundraising team. I was in shock, but after praying I really felt that God equipped and prepared me to work for Mission Quebec.

My role with Mission Quebec is very simple. I’m in charge of recruiting missionaries and partners to join our mission in Quebec. Our goal is to help churches in Quebec to plant 1 church each so that we can double and reach 2% of engaged Christians in Quebec.

My goal is to recruit missionaries, pastors, church planters, and people who would like to come and help reach the most unreached nation in America. I’ll be the only full-time employee for Mission Quebec for now. We are currently a team of three people, so as we raise more funds and more missionaries we’ll be able to make our team stronger and better so that we can serve our churches better. My vision is to be able to provide the necessary missionaries to churches and make the best fit possible. There’s going to be a close collaboration with churches to understand their needs and to develop a better connection with outside churches and missionary agencies that will be able to send us missionaries.
