Who am I ?
My name is Quentin Bernard. I am married to Thalina Turgeon, and we are the happy parents of three wonderful and energetic young children, Lévi (6), Éden (4), and Abel (2).
I was born in France and immigrated to Quebec as a child. I became a Christian when I was 14.
Call and Training
In 2010, I did a year of biblical studies, where I met Thalina. Before we started dating in 2011, she and I both received a clear call from God to church planting. I went on the become a nurse, but I left that profession in 2017 when l’Église du Plateau Mont-Royal recognized my calling and hired me as a pastor-in-training, with the goal that I would plant a daughter church at the end of my training. In 2020, I completed three years of pastoral training at the Plateau Mont-Royal church and a Master of Arts in Biblical Leadership in a joint program of SEMBEQ and Northwest Baptist Seminary.
In the fall of 2020, Thalina and I went through the church planter accreditation process with Acts29 and Mission Quebec. They highly recommended us for this ministry. In February 2021, I received chaplaincy credentials from the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches. Also, from 2021 to 2023, I have served as the Montreal Regional Coordinator for l’Académie Mouvement Jeunesse (Youth Movement Academy), a one-year decentralized Bible program for young adults and students.
Goals and Current Projects
Formerly, Hochelaga-Maisonneuve was a working-class neighbourhood in the Centre-Sud area of Montreal. It was greatly impoverished by the closure of factories in the 1980s, but it is now gentrifying, which brings new challenges. The neighbours in our mission field need food for the body and even more for the soul. For this reason, we moved to Hochelaga in 2019 to bring the gospel and plant the new church there.
We are developing a community chaplaincy ministry to share the gospel directly with people in the neighbourhood. As a church planter, I will take the full-time role of elder and senior pastor of the Hochelaga Church. We are planting with a team made up mainly of former members of the Plateau Mont-Royal church, which was established in 2014.
We want to evangelize, make disciples, build up believers while motivating them for mission, establish a strong church with healthy leadership, and train as many new pastors as the Lord will allow.
My goal, and that of Thalina, is to accelerate discipleship and church planting in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Montreal, the francophonie, and around the world. This is entirely a team effort.
